Promotion board

Normally the promotion board will be held in May every year and we have to spend much time to prepare (some colleauges even take 1 month leave to study) as taxation is a tough profession in Hong Kong.

However, as the civil servant policy changes these years, the promotion exercise was delayed to ... next week! Oh! Normally we'll have a notice period of at least 1 month and EXPECTED time every year(May or June) so that we can prepare better but this time the notice was just 2 weeks and this is an UNEXPECTED one!(We expect earlier this year but no board held then we all guess we can wait until next year!) Wow, so sudden and I even went for a holiday to Taiwan last week!

So I have only 1 week time left to prepare but I'm not so nervous becasuse I know my chance is ZERO! All "seats" are already "marked"!

If it was 15 years ago, nearly all professional staff will get promoted within 3-7 years. But now, after the financial crisis and the 97 era, nobody would leave the civil service and even though I have already spent 10 years in this Department, there are still 100+ of my seniors waiting at the queue in front of me!But it is a pretty good exercise to keep me updated of my profession!...

ahhhh ... I work in the Inland Revenue Department ... hope you'll not see me at my office ...

I think people in Inland Revenue Department are quite "client oriented". I've called a number of times before and they are helpful so that they can get the money asap.
