When you sleep beside me

When you're sleeping beside me,
Please forget all your worries,
For all your troubles I can see,
Always believe God is here!

Dead body found in my office building

It was a scary news to know that there was a dead body found in the building of my office. We just can’t believe that a murder can and has happened in a government office. At the earliest hours of the news heard, there were many different versions spread … suicide by burning charcoals, officers of another department … Of course, all these versions are wrong according to the official news from the police at the moment.

Well, what I can forsee is there will be stories and stories to come later on … ghosts … murderer hiding somewhere … anything you can imagine. Even yesterday somebody claimed that the lift she took suddenly raised to the floor of the murder with no reason and went down …

And it was a very good reason for many colleagues to leave the office sharp together, leaving me and just a few of us working OT …

Being a Lyricist

Can’t imagine I can write lyrics. Actually I am not good in writing. I study commercial subjects from secondary school to university. Chinese Language has long been my weak subject. I don’t have the characters of a person writing stories or writing essays.

I just have some basic 101-techniques of writing lyrics. There has never been a strong vocabulary database in my mind. I just observe things happening around me when I wrote “On the Frontline” and “On My Side”. I was in a difficult feeling when I wrote “Undivided” (yet to be released). As I am not an experienced lyricist, I really have no confidence to write a good song with my own words.

But I will keep on trying, trying, trying and exploring more references from different professional lyricists. Practice makes better.

Like it or don't like it?

I always tell myself that whenever I sing, I have to love the song very very much or I would never sing it well. In some occasions, I was invited to sing some designated songs which I have no feelings on it, then I won't sing it well because I even don't have a heart-passion over the song. If possible, I would suggest another song to replace it.

My wife is a church pianist. In many occasions she was invited to play songs which she doesn't like. Same case applies, she doesn't play the songs well as she doesn't like them. But she usually has no say over the song selection especially when she was invited to play songs in a wedding that the songs are the "beloved songs" of the bride!

To do the best, first of all I have to love it with passion!

Maybe that's why Frontline is producing our own songs and we would select our "beloved songs" and re-arrange them in our CDs!

Three Games without a Goal

Football commentators will always like to comment the ability of a striker to score a goal by counting how long or how many games a striker is not able to score a goal. If a striker is, say, consecutively 5 games without a goal or 450 minutes without a goal, he is described as having scoring problems.

I’ve not played football for quite a long time. But I’m having a similar problem of 3 consecutive recording sessions without a good take! I’ve been trying for a total of over 330 minutes in the studio and can’t even produce a good take for a word! Am I having singing problems? What’s happening to me?

When I went back home last night, I’m so depressed … just like a goalless striker returning back to the changing room …

Hong Kong Coliseum

Every singers in Hong Kong would dream of having their concert at the Hong Kong Coliseum (紅館). I remember we performed once at this "dream" stage in 2002. That was 2002 ACM Power of Praise Concert and we sang 一無掛慮 (a capella). That was the only song we performed on stage that night but we were the chorus singers of the whole night! We were standing at the chorus place just a few steps from the stage.

It was rememorable as this was the last time 6 of us could sing this song together in full team. Ding left us in 2003 for his working at PRC and now we have 5 singers, not likely we can sing this song again as the song composes of 6-part harmonies.
